PET vs Hanging Acrylic Monitor Privacy Filters: Differences and When to Choose Each

Compare PET and hanging acrylic monitor privacy filters by attachment, handling, support and workspace needs before choosing a configuration.

Choose a PET monitor privacy filter when a sheet positioned close to the display suits the workspace and the selected attachment fits your removal routine. Consider hanging acrylic when a separate panel supported at the monitor’s top suits the housing and you have room to handle and store it. Neither material name alone tells you which product will be clearer or more durable.

The useful comparison is how the filter fits into the working day: where it is supported, how it comes off, where it goes during shared viewing and what happens when the monitor moves.

Understand the physical difference

PET filter and its separate attachment method

PET identifies the filter material, not one installation method. ScreenWord’s PET monitor routes include magnetic, nano direct-attach and clip/full-adhesive configurations. They position a sheet near the display, but the way that sheet is held and removed differs.

For regular removal, the magnetic monitor privacy screen is one route to explore. A clip-supported sheet and a full-adhesive installation should not be assigned the same removal routine merely because they share a product grouping. Select the attachment as well as the material.

Hanging acrylic panel and top support

The hanging acrylic monitor privacy screen uses a separate panel format with support at the top of the monitor. The housing profile and access around that support become part of the choice, not just the rectangle being covered.

Think of removal as handling a separate panel rather than peeling a sheet from the display. Allow space around the workstation for the panel and its support structure. The exact support design belongs to the selected product, so a generic hook drawing is not enough to decide fit.

Daily-use question PET filter with the selected attachment Hanging acrylic panel Selection cue
Taking it off and putting it back The attachment controls removal; removable and more fixed installations serve different routines Handle the panel and clear its top support according to its instructions For regular sharing, choose the handling routine users can carry out at the desk
Supporting it in use Requires the appropriate edge or contact surface for that attachment Requires a suitable top profile and support contact Check the actual supporting area, not only the visible display
Space during removal and storage A removed sheet needs protected storage without folding or loose stacking A separate panel needs storage that accommodates its whole form and support Decide where the item goes before choosing it for a shared desk
Moving the monitor Retention depends on the selected attachment and movement Tilt and movement must be considered together with top support For an adjustable arm, discuss the normal movement rather than assuming a stationary setup
Care Follow instructions for the filter surface and attachment Follow instructions for the acrylic panel and its support Choose a configuration your users can maintain; do not transfer a cleaning recipe between materials

Choose for the way the monitor is used

Occasional sharing and a safe place for the removed panel

At a desk where the user occasionally shows a document to a visitor, ask where the filter will go during that conversation. A clear storage position beside the workstation makes a removable option more practical than an arrangement that leaves the filter balanced against a mug or resting on paperwork.

A hanging panel can be worth considering when its top support suits the monitor and there is room to handle the whole panel. A removable PET configuration is another choice when a sheet near the display better suits the workspace. If users have nowhere to put either item, solve that storage question before relying on frequent removal.

Monitor-arm movement, top controls and available support

Describe whether the monitor stays in landscape, turns toward visitors, changes height or tilts through the day. A screen that is never moved presents a different handling situation from one adjusted at every shift change.

For the proposed sample, follow the monitor and filter instructions for movement, including any requirement to remove the filter first. Keep monitor adjustment separate from handling the filter; use the monitor’s designated adjustment points rather than the panel as a handle. Top-mounted cameras or accessories also need room alongside the proposed support. For a portable display, use the separate portable-monitor work-and-carry checks.

Inspect the parts that determine fit

Screen edge and top profile

Look at the monitor from the side as well as the front. Note a sloping back, rounded top, narrow edge, raised border or curved display. A front photograph can show the coverage area while hiding the shape on which a hanging panel would rest.

For PET, identify the surface or edge the selected attachment uses. For hanging acrylic, include the top housing and the space behind it in your photos. These views answer different fit questions and are more useful than two similar front pictures.

Support contact, vents and buttons that must remain accessible

Point out any controls, vents and mounted accessories near the proposed support or attachment. The user still needs to reach buttons and the monitor’s ventilation openings must remain clear in accordance with its instructions.

A useful photo shows the area in context: top profile, nearby camera and control position together. Add a short note about which items must stay in place. Avoid choosing a support location simply because it looks unobstructed in a cropped product image.

Order the selected configuration

Use the existing measurement guide for dimensions

Use the Privacy Filter Measurement Worksheet to organize the display dimensions and coverage request. Add the housing and top-support photos for the hanging option rather than replacing visible-area measurements with the monitor’s outer dimensions.

The monitor privacy filter options page provides the product routes. For a larger office project, the monitor shared-workspace buying guide covers the wider procurement process.

Confirm care and optical version without assuming equal specifications

Ask for the care instructions and optical version of the actual item being quoted. PET and acrylic can be compared for the same workspace need without assuming equal thickness, weight, light transmission or blue-light filtering.
