How to Clean a Privacy Filter: A 3M Example and Other Product Boundaries

A silver-gray laptop, a separate privacy-filter sheet and a folded soft cloth on a neutral desk.

Identify the filter and attachment before cleaning. Follow a cited method for 3M COMPLY Flip Attach, and keep display, accessory and other-filter care separate.

Clean the affected part according to its own instructions: a privacy filter, its attachment and the device display may need different care. For a 3M COMPLY Flip Attach filter used with Adhesive Strips, the documented method is to flip up the filter and wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with ammonia-free glass cleaner. That example does not establish a cleaning method for ScreenWord PET or hanging acrylic products.

Identify the filter, display and attachment before cleaning

Find the mark first. If it is on the device display, follow the device maker’s display-care instructions. If it is on an attachment, follow the guidance for that attachment. If it is on the filter, use its product and attachment reference to find the applicable care instructions. Do not identify a cleaning method from the word “PET” or from appearance alone.

A hanging acrylic privacy screen has a separate panel and top support; it is not handled like every filter placed close to a display. If you need to identify an attachment type, see the laptop privacy filter selection guide. Check any power or preparation steps in the device’s own instructions.

ScreenWord hanging acrylic panel Instructions for its panel and top support The 3M cleaner or handling method

A documented example for 3M COMPLY Flip Attach

For fingerprints, smudges or dust on an identified 3M COMPLY Flip Attach filter with Adhesive Strips, follow the three steps under “Laptop Attachment Options” and “Tips for Optimizing Use” on 3M’s Installation and Care page. If the mark is on the display or attachment, or the filter is another product, use that object’s own guidance instead:

  1. Lift the privacy filter away from the display and flip it up.
  2. Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with ammonia-free glass cleaner.
  3. Wipe fingerprints, smudges and dust from the filter with the cloth.

Moisten the cloth, not the device. Flipping up this filter is not an instruction to remove its hinges or peel off its adhesive strips. Use these steps only when the product and attachment match the cited 3M configuration.

Keep other surfaces and follow-up separate

For a ScreenWord PET filter or hanging acrylic panel, follow the instructions for the identified product and attachment; do not transfer the 3M cleaner to them. The cited 3M section does not supply a mixing ratio or a drying time, so this article does not add one.

If a mark persists or the surface changes after following the applicable guidance, contact ScreenWord with the product or order reference, the affected part and the care already tried. For a new purchase, request a configuration review with the device, intended use, quantity and any care requirement.
